Why You Must Use StartPages For Targeted Traffic
What is Targeted Traffic and why is it so important?
The people you want on your site are those
who put their hand in the air and say "Me Please" when you say "This is what my site offers . . . now do you want to come to my site?"
They put up their hands and say
"Yes". They then respond with a click on your link.
You want people who have voted to visit. People who have seen what you have to offer and have responded with
"Yes, please I’ll have some of that"!
They have put their hands up and taken their own time to visit YOUR site.
These visitors are pure gold-dust. They are interested in what you have to offer and if not in a buying mood TODAY, at least they are receptive to your offerings.
You may have heard all this before. But it’s the critical difference between hits and visitors that makes all the difference.
Hits are just a showing of your site’s homepage and easy to get by the thousands.
Qualified visitors are those who have seen responded positively to your unique selling point and have clicked on a link to learn more at your site.
Before I get on to show you how to get 10000s of Qualified Visitors (not Hits), let me just explain it again with an example.
How many banners have you seen?
Like most surfers, thousands and thousands. So consider those banner displays as just, well ‘displays’.
From all those ‘displays’ how many times did you click and go to a website that you were actually interested in? A hundred? maybe less.
So want you want is visitors, not ‘displays’ or hits.
You want people on your site who have voted to go there.
So what’s wrong with hits, then?
Surely since hits cost nothing using start page programs I don’t have to worry whether they are hits or visitors?
Why don’t I just get all the hits on the home page of my website? WHY do I need a separate StartPage?
Glad we got round to this.
If you join those start page programs your start page will be shown for a few seconds to people who are not interested in seeing it. Your page loads it in their computer simply to earn credits to load
their start pages.
Your Home Page simply won’t do. Your Home Page is designed for visitors. People who have come to your site with their hands held up in the air saying I’m interested, tell me more.
Your home page most likely will be filled with offers, ways to join your email list and a whole load of benefits and information all too much to be absorbed in 30 seconds.
If you are generating traffic using start page programs and you should be then you need a special StartPage that loads in those programs and points people to your Home Page, with their hand in the air . . .
How do you do that?
At last down to the nitty-gritty.
What is a StartPage?
Firstly NEVER assign your Home page as the page to load in a start page program. Never!
Think of a
StartPage as a banner ad. But a banner ad with a difference. It will be a full-page ad (hopefully, but not always as
you will learn later)
Assume it will be shown for no more than 30 seconds.
This is the minimum time set by most start page programs. So because webmasters using start page programs to generate traffic are smart, they close the site down after the stipulated
minimum time period - 30 seconds.
So
you have a maximum time of 30 seconds for your prospect to view your page,
assimilate your message, work out what to do if they're interested in your
offerings and take the necessary action. Within that 30 seconds is also the time
taken to load any graphics you may have.
It's
a very short time in which to load your site and get your
message across.
So your
StartPage must be specially designed to the task. Your normal home-page simply
won't do the job. If you start with your home page as the basis for the design
of your StartPage, it must be stripped to the bones.
It must be:
